The statue of Miguel Hidalgo Costillas stands in the center of
the dam. Hidalgo was a Catholic priest whose writings fanned the
flames of the Mexican Revolution which started in 1910.
To drive yourself to Lake Hidalgo:
Take the boulevard that tees into the plaza. If you face the large
court house ( El Palacio) the boulevard is on it's right.
Go about 10 miles on pavement, then drive below the spillway, and
wend your way to the top of the dam.
From the dam there is a wonderful panoramic view of the lake with
the foot hills of the Serra Madres in the back ground.
On a hill at the other end of the dam sits a large statue of Tlalo,
the Mayo rain god.
Take lots of pictures to show when you get home.
